With the Apple iPad (horrible name) announced, several new Windows tablets demoed, and rumours of the Microsoft Courier floating about, I thought I’d bring together a collection of the videos:

Apple iPad:

Microsoft Courier:

Another Courier video:

Google Chrome OS Tablet Concept

With only the iPad officially announced and coming to market soon, it’s too early to tell what the take up of tablet computers will be. I think the iPad as shown is missing a few features that I would want before I bought it, most specifically GPS and a forward facing camera. I’m also less than keen about the locked down aspect of the iPad.

I like the concept of the Courier,  and I could see myself buying one of these

The Google Tablet seems like a very generic tablet at the moment, but I like the size, this would definitely be a tablet for home table top use, I couldn’t see myself whipping this out of a bag on a train or in a cafe..

I think the interesting thing is how these tablets when (and if) they appear will change how we use computers, when we use them and what we use them for.

How will having a constant connection to the web and all your friends and contacts change how you live?

This excellent video from Pattie Maes at MIT shows where technology is heading. At the moment I’m loving having a internet connected mobile phone, but soon it’s going to do so much more.

I've just upgraded to Spb Mobile Shell, from Spb Software House, on the TyTN II.

Wow the interface rocks.

There are loads of improvements from the previous version. The four icons along the bottom provide quicker access to different parts of the system. Easier navigation using the large arrows and smart gestures. Lots of sweet animation changing between pages. Improved contacts. Very nice and highly recommended. Get it here.

TyTN II_frontOpen3

I've had the phone for a couple of months now, and I love it.

I had some concerns about the size before I purchased it, and it is bulkier than a normal phone, but the extra screen size and functionality are worth it.

The phone has excellent build quality, the slide and tilt keyboard is slick and smooth, excellent typing action, though I do find the need for the function key to get the numeric key pad a bit of a pain.

The 3 Megapixel camera is good quality, but takes ages to focus.

I love the 3G data access, it's a sea change in phone use, having fast internet access anywhere. I've also set up push email using Exchange.

I tried out the HTC TouchFlo system, but in the end installed the Spb Shell that I had for my old phone.

I've installed Egress as an RSS reader.

At the time I was also considering an iPhone, and although the interface of that is lovely, I think I made the right choice. Perhaps when the iPhone has 3G and push email I could reconsider.
